Linton man accused of driving golf cart while intoxicated

A Linton man faces three misdemeanor charges after police allegedly observed him driving a golf cart across both lanes of Vincennes Street.

Evan Matthew Hockman, 27, was arrested at 10:43 p.m. Oct. 2 on preliminary charges of operating a vehicle while intoxicated endangering a person, a Class A misdemeanor; operating a vehicle with an alcohol concentration of .15 or higher, a Class A misdemeanor; and operating a vehicle while intoxicated, a Class C misdemeanor.

According to a probable cause affidavit, Linton Police Officer Andrew Mifflin was on routine patrol when he observed a white golf cart traveling east on Vincennes Street and swerving between the eastbound and westbound lanes.

Mifflin initiated a traffic stop near Seventh Street, but the golf cart allegedly continued east until stopping near Ninth Street Southeast.

During the stop, Mifflin reported that Hockman’s eyes appeared glossy and bloodshot and that he smelled alcohol on Hockman’s breath. Hockman also allegedly struggled to remove his driver’s license from his wallet and acknowledged that he had been drinking.

Police said Hockman displayed several indicators of impairment during field sobriety testing. A portable breath test reportedly registered .155.

Hockman later completed a certified breath test at the Linton Police Department. According to the affidavit, the test registered an alcohol concentration of .193 at 10:09 p.m.

Hockman was transported to the Greene County Jail. He is scheduled to appear in court for an initial hearing Thursday, Oct. 8.
