A traffic stop for a license plate light violation resulted in two men going to jail after a K9 alerted to the presence of a controlled substance in their vehicle.

Curtis Paul Teepe, Jr., 37, and Philip Richard Weber, 41, both from Linton, were arrested by Officer Adam King of the Linton Police Department. They were both booked into the Greene County Jail around 12:30 a.m. Monday, September 14, following a late night traffic stop on Sunday, September 13.

Officer King initiated the traffic stop at 11:12 p.m. Sunday on State Road 54 in the Linton area on a black Chevrolet Trailblazer without a license plate light. Weber was the driver, Teepe was a passenger.

LPD Officer Joe Riley and his K9 partner Kona also responded to assist on the scene and when a sniff was conducted around the vehicle, K9 Kona alerted to the presence of a controlled substance.

Officer King reported that during a search of the vehicle, Officer Riley found a clear glass smoking device in the center console hidden under the gear shifter. It had a white residue that field-tested positive as methamphetamine.

Between the center console and the passenger seat, Officer Riley found a small Ziploc bag containing a white crystal substance that also field-tested positive as methamphetamine.

LPD Officer Kyle Robison, who also responded to assist, located a black digital scale with a white crystal residue between the center console and the driver’s seat.

Both Weber and Teepe denied ownership of the items that were found.

Both men are facing a preliminary charge of possession of methamphetamine, a Level 6 felony. A date for their initial hearings has not yet been set, but both are being held without bond until they appear in court.
