Jasonville woman accused of false informing plus drug charges
A 26-year-old Jasonville woman was arrested on Feb. 15 for false informing and several drug-related charges. In a separate incident that occurred once in the Greene County Jail, she had another drug-related charge added when controlled substances were located on her person in the early morning hours of Feb. 16.
Mariah Dean Padgett was arrested by Jasonville Police Officer Brian Pilant on charges of possession of methamphetamine, possession of paraphernalia, possession of marijuana, and false informing. In a separate incident that occurred once booked into Greene County Jail, an additional charge of possession of a controlled substance was added.
On Feb. 15, Pilant was dispatched to a South Lawton Street residence to assist the Jasonville Fire Department in locating a patient in need of emergency medical assistance. According to the probable cause affidavit, Pilant was informed Padgett had told emergency responders the patient, who was experiencing stroke-like symptoms, had left the scene. When ambulance personnel responded, an individual at the scene informed them the patient was in fact inside the residence. While evaluating the patient, Padgett allegedly told emergency responders his condition was induced by the use of methamphetamine and displayed a small mirror that had white residue and a cylindrical glass device burnt on one end with a rubber tube attached to the other end. Based on his experience as a police officer, Pilant wrote in the probable cause, he described it as consistent with paraphernalia commonly used to ingest controlled substances.
Pilant submitted and was granted a search warrant for Padgett’s residence. During the search, Pilant along with Jasonville Police Officer Skylar Scott and Worthington Police Chief Jacob Gambill found a blue glass pipe, a small glass tube with residue in it, a piece of tubing, a broken colored glass pipe, and a tin lid with reside that field tested positive for methamphetamine and marijuana on it. Also located was a clear glass tube with a lid on it and a small red container with three oblong white pills in it – two of the pills had M366 imprinted on them while the other one had M367 imprinted on it.
Padgett was transported to Greene County Jail by Pilant.
In the early morning hours of Feb. 16, Greene County Sheriff’s Department Deputy Camron Frye was contacted in regards to a controlled substance located on a subject. While completing a search of Padgett, a jail officer located four Ambien pills in her coat pocket. According to the probable cause, Frye’s investigative techniques showed Padgett had not had a written prescription for the drug within the last two years.
When Frye asked Padgett about the pills, she allegedly asked if he was referring to aspirin. Frye explained he was referring to the controlled substance Ambien and asked if she had a prescription for the medication. Padgett said she did not wish to answer any questions without a lawyer present. At that time, Frye informed Padgett she would be charged with possession of a controlled substance.
She’s been charged with:
Possession of methamphetamine, a Level 6 Felony
Possession of paraphernalia, a Class C Misdemeanor
Possession of Marijuana, a Class B Misdemeanor
Possession of a Controlled Substance, a Class A Misdemeanor
She was originally held without bond in the Greene County Jail. On Feb. 20, her bond for the possession of methamphetamine, possession of paraphernalia, possession of marijuana, and false informing charges was set at $5,000 surety with 10 percent allowed. Also on Feb. 20, her bond for the possession of a controlled substance charge was set at $1,000 surety with 10 percent allowed. She was released after posting a combined $600.
