Jailhouse fight results in charges against two inmates
/Two male jail inmates are both being charged with battery after an altercation turned physical. They are both accused of throwing a few punches at each other.
Larry Dewayne Pierce, 49, currently an inmate in the Greene County Jail, and Jeremy Lane Mitchell, 44, Gosport, are both facing a charge of battery, a Class B misdemeanor.
Pierce and Mitchell are accused of being involved in a physical altercation that occurred when both were inmates in the Greene County Jail on Thursday, March 19.
The next day, Jail Commander Ken Conolty informed GCSD Det. Shawn Cullison there had been a fight.
Det. Cullison reviewed a video from G-Pod where both Pierce and Mitchell were housed. Det. Cullison reported the video shows that around 12:06 p.m., the two men were talking then Mitchell used both hands to push Pierce and Pierce then tried to punch Mitchell. Det. Cullison said the video shows the two throwing punches at each other. When Mitchell tried to walk away, Pierce allegedly went after him and punched him again. After less than a minute, both of them walked away.
When Pierce was interviewed by Det. Cullison, he allegedly said Mitchell called him a name and they had walked over to the corner to talk then Mitchell shoved him and he admitted he hit him back.
Mitchell was released from jail on March 20 and Det. Cullison was unable to contact him.
A criminal case was filed against both men in mid-April.
Pierce has appeared in Greene Superior Court for his initial hearing and a public defender has been appointed to represent him.
A summons has been sent to Mitchell ordering him to appear at an initial hearing in Greene Superior Court in June.
