UPDATE: When Ferree appeared in Greene Superior Court for his initial hearing via two-way video on Tuesday, September 28, his bond was set at $80,000 with ten percent cash allowed. Ferree was represented by an attorney from Indianapolis. He has since posted $8,000 and been released from custody.

In Custody: Linton man accused of dealing meth and heroin

A warrant was issued yesterday for the arrest of a Linton man accused of dealing quantities of methamphetamine and heroin and he was taken into custody this afternoon. He’s been the focus of an ongoing investigation for several months by officers from the Linton Police Department and Greene County Drug Task Force and now has two criminal cases pending against him, both involving Level 2 felony drug charges. LPD Chief Paul Clark said the arrest was made at the suspect’s residence in Linton without incident early this afternoon by LPD officers, Greene County Sheriff’s Deputies and members of the Greene County Drug Task Force. Chief Clark expressed appreciation for the cooperation and assistance from all agencies involved in the investigation and arrest.

Ramsey Stone Ferree, 26, Linton, had prior drug-related convictions when he was arrested back on Thursday, July 8, by LPD Officer Bobby Pierce and booked into the Greene County Jail where he was held without bond pending his initial hearing.

Ferree was then charged with possession of methamphetamine with intent to deal, with an enhancing circumstance and a prior conviction, a Level 2 felony. In addition, if Ferree is convicted, the prosecution intends to seek habitual offender status in this case which could result in additional time added to any sentence.

Ferree retained a defense attorney to represent him and during the hearing, his bond was set at $75,000 surety with ten percent cash allowed.

LPD and Greene County Drug Task Force officers made that earlier arrest during a traffic stop. Ferree was the driver of a blue 2008 Dodge Avenger stopped for speeding and driving left of center on Lone Tree Road. A search warrant was issued and when the vehicle search was executed, officers reported finding zip bags containing a white crystal substance, another zip bag containing an off-white powdery substance, and three separate zip bags, each containing a pill or pieces of three different kinds of pills. They also found a safe with a bag containing a white crystal substance that field-tested positive as methamphetamine and weighed over 8 ounces, along with $830 cash.

Ferree remained in custody until mid-September when $7,500 was posted and he was released from jail.

So Ferree was out on bond when yesterday, Thursday, September 23, another criminal case was filed against him and a warrant issued for his arrest.

In the latest case, LPD Officer Bobby Pierce, who also serves on the Greene County Drug Task Force, said Ferree has been the focus of an ongoing investigation into the distribution of methamphetamine over the past few months. In a probable cause document prepared by Officer Pierce, he said officers had information provided by an informant who had told them Ferree was dealing meth.

The new charges Ferree is facing include:

Dealing in methamphetamine in an amount between five and 10 grams with an enhancing circumstance, a Level 2 felony, and
Dealing in methamphetamine or delivery of methamphetamine in an amount of 10 or more grams, a Level 2 felony.

According to Officer Pierce, these charges are supported by both audio and video evidence of two different transactions that occurred in June between Ferree and a buyer. In both transactions, Ferree allegedly sold and delivered quantities of methamphetamine and also heroin to the buyer in exchange for cash.

Officers took possession of the methamphetamine and heroin that was sold. After these transactions took place, the crystal substance sold as methamphetamine did field-test positive as methamphetamine. The methamphetamine sold weighed in excess of 10 grams. All of the items seized from both transactions was being sent to an Indiana State Police Laboratory for analysis – results pending.

Once booked in to the Greene County Jail, Ferree will be held without bond pending court appearance. (Note: This story is being posted after the arrest but prior to Ferree completing the booking process at the Greene County Jail.)

Ferree’s criminal record includes:

Conviction in Morgan County in March of 2018 for possession of methamphetamine in an amount between five and ten grams, a Level 5 felony, and operating a vehicle while intoxicated endangering a person, a Class A misdemeanor,
Conviction in Morgan County in April of 2018 for possession of a controlled substance, a Class A misdemeanor,
Conviction in Marion County in June of 2020 for possession of a controlled substance a Class A misdemeanor, and
Conviction in Greene County in July of 2020 for escape – for knowingly or intentionally violating a home detention order, a Level 6 felony.
