Hola Hermosa launches back-to-school haircut sponsorship program
/A Lyons salon is allowing community members to help local children start the school year with confidence.
Hola Hermosa has launched a Back-to-School Haircut Sponsorship Program that allows residents to purchase prepaid haircuts for children who may need a little extra help before school begins. Each sponsorship costs $20 and will provide a free haircut to a local child.
The program runs from June 19 through Aug. 19.
Salon owner Rosa Morena said the idea grew out of a desire to continue giving back to the community.
"I was able to help with Cinco de Mayo's free summer lunches last year, and it was something I was so happy to be a part of," Morena said. "All the girls here and I got together and decided a haircut would be the best way for us to give back to our community."
The sponsorship process is simple. Community members can visit the salon and purchase one or more haircuts in advance. Those donations are then added to a sponsorship board inside the salon. Families needing assistance can redeem a sponsored haircut during the summer and before the start of the school year.
Morena said the goal is to help as many children as possible begin the school year feeling confident and ready to learn.
"Together, we can make a difference one haircut at a time," she said.
Families interested in receiving a sponsored haircut may stop by the salon, message the Hola Hermosa Facebook page, or call the salon. Appointments may be scheduled in advance, or walk-in services may be available based on stylist availability.
