Greene County Sheriff’s Department warns of bond payment scam

The Greene County Sheriff's Department is warning residents about scam calls that appear to be coming from the department’s phone number regarding bond payments.

According to the department, callers are instructing individuals to purchase cryptocurrency or gift cards and provide the information to the caller as payment for a bond.

Officials emphasize that the Greene County Sheriff’s Department will never call and ask for bond payments over the phone. Bond payments are accepted in cash only and must be made in person at the department.

Anyone who receives a suspicious call that appears to be from the sheriff’s department and is unsure of its legitimacy is advised to hang up and contact the department directly.
