GCSD releases name of homicide victim

The Greene County Sheriff’s Department has released the name of a shooting victim and confirmed they are investigating a homicide involving a firearm that occurred yesterday morning in southeastern Greene County.

Dustin Fredrick Abel, 32, has been identified as the victim and is deceased.

The shooting occurred at approximately 10:39 a.m. yesterday, Tuesday, April 30, on property located at 7251 East State Road 58, Owensburg, in the area of Kentucky Ridge.

Yesterday, Sgt. Curt Durnil, the public information officer for the Bloomington District of the Indiana State Police, confirmed that ISP personnel were assisting local law enforcement with a death investigation in Greene County.

The investigation into the homicide is being led by Det. Sgt. Jim O’Malley of the Greene County Sheriff’s Department. Law enforcement agencies known to be involved in the investigation include the sheriff’s department and the state police.

O’Malley said this is an ongoing investigation.

As of 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, the name of a suspect and other details about the incident have not been released.
