A 35-year-old Jasonville woman is facing a felony charge of neglect of a dependent in connection with a criminal case against Logan White. White recently pleaded guilty to felony child molesting and has been convicted and sentenced, but a case against Ashley D. McKee is still pending.

During the investigation involving Logan White and McKee’s family, led by Greene County Sheriff’s Detective Sergeant James O’Malley, McKee was interviewed at the sheriff’s department on February 2.

During the interview, McKee told O’Malley that White lived with a member of his family in a home behind her residence in Midland and she had known them for several years. She said White was friends with her children and would come over to hang out with her family, starting sometime in the summer of 2017 when McKee, her husband and their three children were all living together. She said they had no issues with White.

In an affidavit prepared by O’Malley and filed in McKee’s case, he wrote, “Ashley stated when Logan began coming around more frequently, she developed emotional and physical feelings for him. Ashley stated she knew Logan White was 20 years old.” She said there was never any physical contact between her and White.

Then on December 5, 2017, McKee’s husband moved out and the couple intended to get a divorce. Two of their children moved along with the father, but McKee and one of the children remained in the home. After that, White began helping around the house and would often stay overnight.

According to O’Malley, McKee said she was aware that White and her 12-year-old child had developed feelings for each other and she warned them about sitting too close to each other on the couch. She said White asked to sleep on the floor in the juvenile’s bedroom and she always refused except for one time, telling him the door had to be left open.

O’Malley wrote, “Ashley was asked why Logan had requested to sleep in (the child’s) bedroom. Ashley stated she did not know why and had never thought to ask Logan why he wanted this sleeping arrangement.”

In the case against White, he was arrested and charged with four counts of child molesting, all Level 3 felonies, among other criminal charges. He recently pleaded guilty to two counts of child molesting and was sentenced to a total of 20 years in prison, with two years suspended.

During this investigation, Prosecutor’s Investigator Julie Criger interviewed the victim in these cases. She advised Det. Sgt. O’Malley that the juvenile shared details of the sexual incidents, over 20 of them, between White and the juvenile that all took place in December 2017 and January 2018 in the home of Ashley McKee, while McKee was in the home.

A criminal case was filed and a warrant was issued for McKee’s arrest. McKee was age 34 at the time of her arrest by Greene County Sheriff’s Deputy Harvey Holt on February 27, 2018. She’s now 35. Her bond was set at $4,000 surety with ten percent allowed and she bonded out the same day after posting $400 cash.

When she appeared for her initial hearing in Greene Superior Court in March, a public defender, Ellen Martin, was appointed to represent her and she was charged with neglect of a dependent – places dependent in situation that endangers the dependent, Level 6 felony.

A trial date has not been set but she’s due back in court in June for a pre-trial conference.
