Last Monday, two deputies from the Greene County Sheriff’s Department responded to a house on Crowe Road in the Bloomfield area after a man called 911 for help. The caller said he had been drugged and had just woke up. He said there were three unknown men in his house, with guns.

The caller was Anthony C. Tally, 52, of Bloomfield.

GCSD Deputy David Elmore was dispatched along with Det. Shawn Cullison on Monday, August 20. When they arrived, Elmore headed to the back, Cullison to the front.

Deputy Elmore said he saw Cullison knock on the front door then retreat behind cover and he heard a man, later identified as Tally, yelling inside the house. He said Cullison was telling Tally, “It’s the sheriff’s department. I promise you, I’m a sheriff’s deputy.”

Elmore heard Cullison tell Tally, “Go ahead and put the gun down,” then he heard something hit the ground. When Elmore came around to the front door, he saw a long rifle laying at the front door in front of Tally.

Tally was asked to step outside and sit down and while Cullison kept watch on him, Elmore entered the house to do a safety sweep.

There was nobody else inside the house, but while Elmore was walking through, he saw numerous items of paraphernalia in plain view, such as a mirror with a white powdery substance, pipes, and baggies containing what appeared to be marijuana.

When Tally was asked about the marijuana, Tally allegedly said the marijuana was his, but anything else inside the house belonged to the guys that drugged him. Tally signed a consent form for deputies to search the house.

More items of paraphernalia were found along with multiple baggies with a crystal substance that were stuffed inside the toe of a boot.

Some items were tested on the scene and Elmore reported positive tests for methamphetamine.

Also while on the scene, Tally allegedly told Det. Cullison that he had a gun in his hand because he was waiting for someone to approach his house and he was going to shoot anyone that did come to his house.

Cullison reported when he took possession of the Winchester gun, he unloaded eight .22 shells, one ready to fire.

Tally was arrested and transported to the sheriff’s department and when Elmore interviewed him again, Tally said his brother was at his house when the three men were there. He asked if the deputies had called his brother yet.

Det. Cullison was able to make contact with the brother by phone but the brother said he had been at the hospital all day and had not been to Tally’s house that day. He also said he doesn’t have a lot to do with his brother.

Elmore reported when the methamphetamine that was seized was placed on a digital scale, it weighed in at 6.1 grams.

Tally was booked in to jail around 8:26 p.m. on Monday. He was held without bond pending an appearance in court.

Greene County Prosecutor Jarrod Holtsclaw filed a criminal case against Tally in Greene Circuit Court and on Wednesday afternoon, August 22, during his initial hearing before Judge Erik Allen, Tally was charged with:

Possession of methamphetamine in an amount between five and ten grams, a Level 4 felony,
Possession of marijuana, a Class A misdemeanor, and
Possession of paraphernalia, a Class C misdemeanor.

Holtsclaw is representing the State and Greene County Deputy Public Defender Ellen Martin was appointed to represent Tally.

Tally’s bond was set at $15,000 surety with ten percent cash allowed.
