When an attempted murder suspect appeared in court on Friday morning, his bond in the attempted murder case was set high, but in another case involving stalking, his bond was revoked so he continues to be held in the Greene County Jail without bond.

Derrick Harper, the man accused of stabbing his girlfriend nine times on Wednesday night, was scheduled to appear in Greene Superior Court at 10:30 a.m. today, Friday, November 30, for his initial hearing in the case of attempted murder.

With Greene County Chief Deputy Prosecutor Keven McIntosh representing the state and Judge Dena Martin presiding, the hearing was conducted via two-way video connection between the courtroom and the jail.

Harper was found eligible for indigent counsel and Greene County Public Defender Alan Baughman was appointed to represent him. Baughman was also appointed to represent Harper in another case pending against him involving stalking.

During the hearing, Harper was served with an order of protection ordering him to have no contact with the victim of the attempted murder.

After his arrest, Harper was initially held without bond pending his appearance in court. During the hearing, his bond was set at $100,000 surety with ten percent cash allowed. It would take $10,000 cash for him to be released in this case.

However, during the same session, Harper was informed that a petition to revoke his bond in the stalking case had been filed and the judge did enter an order to revoke.

The result then is that Harper will continue to be held in the Greene County Jail without bond.
