Paul Tyler Olivella
Paul Tyler Olivella, age 78, of Linton, passed away peacefully at 11:40 A.M. on Tuesday, November 2, 2021, at Greene County General Hospital in Linton. He was born in Queens, New York, on May 19, 1943, the son of Philip & Maxine (Tyler) Olivella.
All throughout his life Paul was passionate about learning & excelled in all of his studies. During high school Paul was the year book editor. Following his high school graduation as valedictorian of his class, he graduated from Queens College as valedictorian with a bachelor’s degree, received his master’s degree in English literature from Columbia University, and finished college by doing his graduate studies at New York University. Paul taught college prep English in New York until moving to Linton in 1976, to be near and care for his grandmother, Jennie Tyler.
During his younger years, Paul loved traveling by train to Linton from New York to visit with his grandparents, Mack and Jennie Tyler. He enjoyed going to the TV studios and watching his father, who was a CBS staff musician, play on television shows such as The Gary Moore Show, The Jimmy Dean Show, The, Honeymooners, and The Ed Sullivan Show. He was an avid reader, acquiring a massive collection of books. He was passionate about music and was an excellent pianist. Paul also had a tender heart with his love for animals, taking in countless stray animals during his lifetime. In the mid 1980’s, he helped establish the Greene County Humane Society. Paul was always a hit during the holidays with his younger cousins, entertaining all the kids with magic tricks. Paul was a wonderful caregiver and will always be remembered for his kindness.
Paul is survived by his sister, Janine Olivella of Linton, and numerous cousins.
He was preceded by his parents and grandparents.
