William Eddy Dale
William Eddy Dale was born on March 23, 1953, to Jack and Doris (Fritz) Dale of Linton, Indiana. Eddy was a wonderful man that was loved, and will always be cherished. Our “Pappy,” as he was lovingly referred to by his grandchildren, was an amazing husband, father, brother, grandfather, father-in-law, uncle, and friend. After a long battle with cancer, he departed from this life peacefully at home on August 13, 2022, surrounded by his family.
Eddy was a 1971 graduate of Linton-Stockton High School, after which he attended Rose-Hulman and later completed his degree at Indiana Wesleyan University. Like a true Linton Miner, he started his career at Peabody Coal where he worked at Latta and Universal Mines. After moving from coal mining to a coal-fired power plant at PSI/Cinergy/Duke Energy Edwardsport plant, he worked for 29 years until his retirement. Eddy was a member of IBEW Local 1393 and was also the Manager of the Public Service Edwardsport Plant Employee Federal Credit Union, where he was a banker-extraordinaire for over 20 years. Many of Eddy’s colleagues at the plant were treated to checks delivered straight to work and after-hours loans and transactions.
In his free time, Eddy served for 8 years on the Linton-Stockton School Corporation Board of Trustees, was a volunteer for the Greene County 4-H clubs, and was a member of the Linton Elks #866. He was also a lifelong member of Saron United Church of Christ in Linton, Indiana. Eddy’s ministry both in and out of Church was one of love, service, and dedication. Throughout his years at Saron, he was a member of various committees including the Building Committee and the Pastoral Search Committee, where he lead both groups as Chair. He also spent many years in Consistory – where he served as Trustee, Deacon, and Elder multiple times throughout the history of the Church. On Sunday mornings, friends, family, and visitors were often greeted with a warm smile, a “Hey Buddy!” and a funny story as they entered through the doors at Saron anytime Eddy was there.
It was at Saron that he met the love of his life, Della (Huber) Dale when they were members of the youth group. They were married there on December 22, 1973, and were blessed with three children: Steven (Melissa) Dale, Stefanie (Ryan) Ball, and Kevin (Chelsea) Dale. He delighted in spending time with his family, whether it be camping, sightseeing, sitting on the beach napping, or gathering around the dining room table for a meal and a laugh. He had a love for fast cars, HAM Radio, trucks, manicuring his yard, smoked meat, ice cream, and homemade chocolate chip cookies – not necessarily in that order.
Of all his accomplishments, accolades, and achievements in life, his most prized treasures were his seven beloved grandchildren: Addy Ball (12), A.J. Dale(11), Allie Ball(9), Caroline Dale(9), Katie Dale(9), Maggie Dale(4) and Josie Dale(3). Of all the titles he could have ever been bestowed, Pappy had to be the one that brought him the most joy and contentment. He was Pappy to anyone and everyone who needed it. If there was a baby to be rocked, Pappy was the man for the job. If there was a tear running down a cheek, Pappy was first in line to wipe it away. If there was a need for a giant squeeze hug, Pappy was the place to go to get your fix. Pappy loved his babies, and they adored him in return.
Eddy is survived by his loving wife of almost 49 years, Della; 3 children and their spouses; 7 grandchildren; Siblings Paula Henico, Andy (Diane) Dale, Robert Dale, Jim (Rita) Dale, and Patricia Dixon; Brothers and Sisters-in-law Harry (Linda) Huber, Clara Ann (Ruben) Harris; as well as nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Doris Dale, his brother-in-law Dennis Henico and his niece Morgan Dale.
Funeral Services will be held at Welch & Cornett Funeral Home in Linton at 1:00 P.M. on Wednesday, August 17, 2022 with Pastor Jeff Fulk officiating. Burial will follow at the German Memory Hill Cemetery in Linton.
