William R. "Bill" Powell, age 83, of Linton, passed away on Monday, July 20, 2020, at Sullivan County Community Hospital.  He was born in Linton on June 12, 1937, the son of J. Raymond "Judge" & Etta Mae (Beasley) Powell.

Bill was a 1955 graduate from Linton-Stockton High School.  He attended college for a time until he served our country in the United States Marine Corp. Bill retired from Columbia House in Terre Haute where he worked as a warehouse supervisor. 

He was a member of the Bethel Baptist Church in Vicksburg. He enjoyed watching all his grandchildren play sports and loved his cows and family farm.

Bill is survived by his wife of sixty years, Sharon K. (Hall) Powell of Linton, his two daughters, Beth (Garry) Caddell of Lyons, Debbie Uland of Bloomington, two sons, Jay (Jill) Powell of Linton and Blaine (Darcy) Powell of Sullivan, eleven grandchildren, Geoffrey (Kiley) Caddell, Amanda (Sean) Hepner, Jacson (Christina) Miller, Courtney Uland, Bobby (Kyla) Cox, Jocelin (Mitchell) Kampman, Jayton (Tiera) Powell, Jaron (Alisha) Powell, Bailee Powell, Trey Powell, and Camden Powell, nine great-grandsons, Korbe, Kalvin, Graham, Mason, Hayden, Oliver, Emmett, Landon, and Harlan, and two sisters, Sara Ann (Wayne) Davis and Joetta L. (Alan) Gambill.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral service will be held at Bethel Baptist Church in Vicksburg at 10:00 A.M., Friday, July 24, 2020, with Pastor Doug Cassel officiating.  Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Linton.

Visitation will be held at Welch & Cornett Funeral Home in Linton on Thursday from 4-8 P.M., and Friday at the church from 9 A.M. until the time of service.

Memorial contributions may be made to Sullivan Arrow Football (SHS football) through the funeral home.
