Willard Winters

Willard Q. Winters, age 93, formerly of Linton, passed away peacefully at 10:28 P.M. on Sunday, November 3, 2019, at Gabriel Home for the Elderly in Valparaiso, IN. He was born in Switz City on January 7, 1926, the son of William Ray & Lucille (Hoffeditz) Winters.

Willard was a 1943 graduate of Switz City High School. He was a U.S. Navy Combat veteran, serving in the Pacific aboard the USS Caperton during WW II.  In his early career, Willard worked for the Monon Railroad.  He retired from Azcon in Chicago as a Vice-President.  

He enjoyed hunting, fishing, anything mechanical, and was a "Jack of All Trades."   He spent many hours working with young men teaching hunting, fishing, and lessons of the outdoors.

He was a member of Linton First Baptist Church, the Monon Historical Society, 

He is survived by a daughter, Connie (Brad) Meeder of Hebron, a son, David Willard (Vickie) Winters of West Mansfield, Ohio, a sister, Catherine (Ron) Keller of Rockville, grandchildren, Randy (Holly) Ferrell, Sarah Winters, Briana (Jason) Gabehart, Andrew (Diane) Winters, Melissa Winters, U.S. Marine Corps Captain Eric (Traci) Meeder, and fifteen great-grandchildren.  

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Patricia (Blaker) Winters, a son, Steven Ray Winters, and two brothers, Roy Winters and Jack Winters, 

Funeral service will be held at Welch & Cornett Funeral Home in Linton at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, November 9, 2019, with Richard Keller officiating.  Burial will follow in Switz City Cemetery with military graveside graveside rites.

Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Friday from 4-8 P.M., and Saturday from 10 A.M. until the time of service.  

Memorial contributions may be made to Linton First Baptist Church through the funeral home.
