Vernon Sanders

Vernon H. (Clell) Sanders, 91, of Sandborn, IN, passed from this life peacefully, surrounded by his family, on Friday, November 30th, 2018, in Terre Haute, IN.  He was born on January 28, 1927, in Lyons, IN, the son of Emil T. and Mary E. (Dove) Sanders.   Vernon married Barbara J. (Shorter) on July 24, 1948, and she preceded in death.

Vernon was a member of the Sandborn Christian Church and the Frank Courtney American Legion Post #22.  He served in the US Army during WWII and then worked many years at the Crane Naval Base in the Ordinance department. Vernon was an avid mushroom hunter and a sports fan who enjoyed watching IU, the Yankees and the Celtics.  He adored his daughters and family members and will be truly missed.

Family left behind to cherish Vernon’s memories include: his daughters, Sandra Sue (Mike Tague) Marquart Lookebill and Melody A. (Bob) Thuis, both of Linton; grandchildren: Stacy Thuis, Brock (Jerrie) Thuis and Amber Marquart (Jason) Hale; 5 great-grandchildren: Taylor, Aliyah and Taryn Thuis, and Alexis and Violet Hale. Vernon was preceded in death by: his wife, Barbara, a brother, Emil Sanders and his parents.

Funeral services are scheduled for 11:00 AM on Tuesday, December. 4, 2018, at the Anderson-Poindexter Memory Chapel in Linton, with Bryan Sanders officiating. Vernon will be laid to rest in the Sandborn Cemetery, with Military Graveside Rites by the Frank Courtney American Legion Post #22.

Family and friends may call from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Monday, December 3rd and from 9:00 AM until the time of service at 11:00 AM on Tuesday at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to S.A.F.E. Animals, with envelopes available at the funeral home.
