Verlin Roy Dyer

Verlin Roy Dyer, age 71, of Bloomfield, formerly of Worthington, passed away on Friday, April 20, 2018, at Greene County General Hospital in Linton.  He was born in Linton on December 21, 1946, the son of Wayne & Betty Lou (Reed) Dyer.

Verlin was a 1965 graduate of Worthington-Jefferson High School.  He served our country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War.  He worked as a machinist for twenty years at Griffin Engineering in Worthington, and retired from Otis Elevator after many years of service.

He was a member of Mt. Vernon Baptist Church and the VFW, both of Worthington.  He enjoyed working with his tools, fishing and hunting.

He is survived by his wife, Joyce E. (Edwards) Dyer of Bloomfield, a son, Terry (Charlene) Dyer of Worthington, two daughters, Denise (Edwin) Andrew and Christy (John) Thompson, both of Bloomfield, a sister, Janie Dyer of Brazil, seven grandchildren, Jeannie, Sarah, & Verlin "Max" Andrew, Felicia (Zackary) Wraley, Jared & Ethan Thompson, and Elexis Mandrell, two great-grandsons, Aidyn Wraley & Grayson Thompson, and his uncle, Loren Reed.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Virginia Maxine Dyer, and an infant sister, Rose Ann Dyer.

Funeral service will be held at Welch & Cornett Funeral Home in Worthington at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 28, 2018, with Pastor Davy Dyer officiating.  Burial will follow at Worthington Cemetery with military rites conducted by the Worthington VFW and American Legion.

Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Friday from 5 - 8 p.m., and Saturday from 12 noon until the time of service.

Memorial contributions can be made to the Bloomington Humane Society through the funeral home.
