Steve Paul Holtsclaw

Steve Paul Holtsclaw, age 66, of Lyons, passed away at Union Hospital in Terre Haute on Monday, December 27, 2021. He was born on April 19, 1955, the son of Paul and Ella Mae (O’Haver) Holtsclaw.

Steve was a 1973 graduate of Central High School and then went on to receive a degree from Community College of the Air Force. He was a Vietnam Veteran and served our country for 36 years in the United States Air Force and Air National Guard. Steve served in Operation South Watch, Kuwait, in 1993 and 1997 and Operation Enduring Freedom from Incirlik Air Base, Turkey in response to the September 11 attacks. Steve served with the 181st Fighter Wing, based at Hulman Field, Terre Haute, IN from 1986-2009 retiring from the Air National Guard in Terre Haute after 24 years of full time service as a Senior Master Sargent with multiple military honors.

Steve was a member of the VFW, Odd Fellows for 50 yrs, and Switz City Volunteer Fire Dept for 36 yrs.

Steve enjoyed farming, fishing with his grandkids, and traveling. His patriotic devotion to our Country and the military was inspiring and always on his mind. A true American Soldier.

Steve is survived by his loving wife of 45 yrs, Darlene (Graves) Holtsclaw; two sons Jeremy (Sally) Holtsclaw of Vincennes; Dustin (Jill) Holtsclaw of Carmel; four grandchildren Graham, Hannah, Leo & AJ and several in-laws, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Steve was preceded in death by his parents, sister Susan Johansson, and brother-in-law, Arnold Graves.

Funeral service will be held at 11:00 am at Welch & Cornett Funeral Home in Linton on Monday, January 3, 2022 with Chris Gehring officiating. Burial will follow at Prairie Chapel Cemetery in Lyons.

Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Sunday, January 2, 2022 from 2:00-6:00 pm and on Monday from 10:00 am until time of service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Switz City Volunteer Fire Department, National Museum of the United States Air Force or Indiana Relief Fund 181st Intelligence Wing through the funeral home.
