Stephen Eric Franklin

Stephen Eric Franklin, age 52, of Linton, passed away peacefully at 12:15 pm on Sunday, October 19, 2025, at Gibson Family Center for Hospice Care with his family by his side. He was born in Linton, IN on October 13, 1973, the son of Stephen Larry Franklin & DeeAnn (Grounds) Franklin Exline.

He was a 1992 graduate of Bloomfield High School. He was a heavy equipment operator and did excavating for several construction companies over the years and then went on to owning and operating SAFE Excavating with his son for a few years. He was a member of Sons of the American Legion Post #22 and Worthington VFW. His favorite time of the year was Fall because he could be outside around campfires and he could cook his favorite spicy Big Red Hotdogs over the open fire. Eric enjoyed fishing, cooking, mushroom hunting, watching the Indianapolis Colts play, working on cars with his son as well as going on cruises and to the ocean. He cherished every loving moment he got to spend with his friends and family where he was known as "White Oak" or "Tiny".

Eric is survived by his son, Stephen (Christina) Franklin of Terre Haute; grandchildren, Ellie Franklin, Emma Franklin and Easton Franklin; sister, Susan Franklin Heacox; nephews, Andrew Heacox and Alex Heacox; half siblings, Jami Goodwin Howard and Dan (Carla) Carter as well as several other beloved family members and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; step-father, Greg Exline and faithful furry companion, Buddy.

Funeral service will be held at 7:00 pm at Welch & Cornett Funeral Home in Linton of Walton Funeral Service on Monday, October 27, 2025 with Pastor Billy Henry officiating.

Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Monday from 4:00 pm until the time of service.
