SPC Austin Allen Fretz

SPC Austin Allen Fretz, 37, of Bloomfield passed away on September 29, 2021 at Roudebush Veterans Hospital in Indianapolis. Born December 26, 1983 in Bloomington, Indiana, he was the son of Joe and Bridget (Cunningham) Fretz.

He graduated from Whiteland High School with the Class of 2002. He worked on his grandparents farm prior to enlisting in the US Army in 2006. He completed Infantry basic training at Ft. Benning, GA. with the highest marksmanship rating and received awards for that skill. He served in Korea, two tours in Iraq and is an Honorably discharged Disabled American Veteran. He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans,  American Legion Post #18 in Bloomington and the Bloomington VFW Post# 604. 

Austin enjoyed fishing, country music, the outdoors, racing, mushroom hunting and being with his “Battle Buddies.” 

He is survived by his mother, Bridget Fretz, his father, Joe Fretz; and a large loving family of Aunts, Uncles, Nieces, Nephews and Cousins; and his BATTLE BUDDIES, Reid Erickson, Carson Middlebrook and Josh Daigle. 

He is preceded in death by his Maternal and Paternal Grandparents and an Uncle Mark Cunningham. 

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM Friday, October 8, 2021 at West & Parrish & Pedigo Funeral Home in Spencer. 

Visitation will be from 4:00PM – 8:00PM Thursday at the funeral home and Friday from 11:00 am until the time of service.
