Ruby Margaret Ockerman

Ruby Margaret Ockerman, 84, passed away Saturday May 29, 2021 at the Ketcham Memorial Center in Odon, Indiana. She was born in Martin County, Indiana to Marshall and Grace (Lindley) Hardwick on July 27, 1936.

On August 19, 1953 in Washington, Indiana Ruby married Bernyl A. Ockerman. They were fortunate to lead a happy and Productive marriage for 47 years until her husband’s passing on August 12, 2000.

For almost 20 years Ruby worked for the family’s drive-in theater business just south of Bloomfield.

Upon Bernyl and Ruby’s retirement, they spent twenty plus wonderful years living the lakeside life at West Boggs Park in her home town of Loogootee.

Ruby was an incredibly hard-working woman. Impeccable in her housekeeping, landscaping, gardening and overall appearance.

In 2020, at 84 years old, Ruby still enjoyed mowing her lawn, rose gardening and insisted on sealing her driveway each year to much concern of her neighbors.

For years she had become the loving, caring, adoptive parent of many of her neighborhood’s homeless cats and kittens.

Ruby was a devoted and loving wife and mother; she will be missed.

Ruby was preceded in death by her parents and husband, also sisters Jean Kee, Madge Reed, and Louise DeVillez, and brothers, Shelby, Jack, and Dale Hardwick.

Ruby is survived by one sister, Margie Guth of North Carolina, and one son Mark of Indianapolis.
