Ruby Jean Rogers
Ruby Jean Rogers, 89, of Linton, Indiana, passed away with loved ones by her side, on Saturday, February 12, 2022 at Glenburn Nursing Home in Linton. She was born on October 2, 1932, in Greene County, Indiana to John C. and Edna Gilberta (Gambill) Sexton.
Jean married Donald Hayes on October 6, 1958 and after his death, she married Charles B. Rogers on February 6, 1984.
Jean was of the Christian faith and, at the young age of 13, she was the song leader for her uncle, Rev. Jack Gambill. Jean had a sweet, beautiful voice and used her God-given talent singing in church and at funerals. She was often heard singing for all of her friends at the nursing home.
Jean was a loving wife, mother, and doting grandmother. She enjoyed sewing, crafting and gifting and loved being in her garden. She was the owner and operator of the Singer Sewing Store in Linton for many years.
Family left to cherish the memory of Jean include: son, Steve Steele, daughter-in-law, Lissa Vaughn Steele, both of Sullivan; daughter, Roberta ‘Bertie’ (Carlton) Wilson of Robinson, IL; step-daughters, Sharon (Ernie) Horrall of Terre Haute, Sandra (John) Mack of Greenwood; step-sons, Larry Joe Hayes of Terre Haute and Chuckie Rogers of Linton; grandchildren, Carri Barbour, Carlton ‘Chip’ Wilson II, Malokia B. Steele-Cooper, Joshua K. Steele, Elijah S. Steele, Fiersen A. Steele, Sephan T. Steele; ten great-grandchildren and ten great-great-grandchildren.
Jean was preceded in death by: her parents; husbands, Donald Hayes and Charles B. Rogers; step-son, Donald ‘Donnie’ Robert Hayes; grandson, Hendrix V.R. Steele; sister, Mamie Ruth Alsman; brothers, Robert Sexton and Donald Sexton.
A graveside service to honor the life of Jean will be at 1:00 PM on Wednesday, February 16, 2022 at Antioch Cemetery in Dugger with Pastor David Simpson officiating.
