Robert “Larry” Corbin, 77, of Solsberry, passed away Sunday, July 26th, 2020 at McCormick’s Creek Rehab and Skilled Nursing Home in Spencer, Indiana. Born November 22nd, 1942, in Solsberry, Indiana the son of Gilbert and Odessa (Cox) Corbin.

Robert “Larry” Corbin

Larry was a volunteer firefighter for 43 years and a Lifetime Member at the Eastern Fire Department, where he and his lifelong friend, Larry Shute, were founding members in 1963. He was an EMT for the Greene County Ambulance Service and retired from Westinghouse/ABB after 33 years. Larry loved spending his free time in the bay of the firehouse in the company of his closest friends whom he considered his family. His fellow firefighters always knew he’d be there whenever the tones went off and he mentored countless young firefighters in the community over the years. He enjoyed deer, turkey, and mushroom hunting, working on the family farm, shooting any and every gun he could get his hands on, and spending time with his grandchildren who lovingly called him “papaw Larry”. Larry was a kind man who never had a bad word to say and a great storyteller who would often get tickled with himself and his life’s adventures before he could get to the end of the story.

Larry is survived by three children, Melissa Corbin, Tamara Hatchett, and Larry Wayne (Julie) Corbin, seven grandchildren, Emily (Logan) Hobbs, Samantha (Casey) Bireley, Austin Corbin, Dylan Corbin, Aaron Hatchett, Dalton Corbin, and Katie Corbin, and 3 great-grandchildren, Ava Johnson, Carlie Corbin, and Zoey Corbin.

Larry was preceded in death by his mother and father, and one sister, Janice Corbin.

Friends may call from 4:00pm to 8:00pm on Thursday, July 30th, 2020 and from 11:00am to 12:00pm on Friday, July 31st at Jenkins Funeral Home in Bloomfield. A procession to the graveside will leave at 12:20pm.

A graveside service with Indiana Volunteer Firefighter’s Association (IVFA) honors will be held on Friday, July 31st at 1:00pm at Solsberry Cemetery in Solsberry, Indiana.

The family wishes any donations be made to the Beech Creek Township Fire Department in his honor.
