Ray D. Malone
/Ray D. Malone, 96, of Odon, Indiana, formerly of Newberry, Indiana, passed from this life, on Tuesday, October 22, 2024 at the Rose House at Ketcham Memorial Center in Odon. He was born on June 21, 1928 in Newberry to Frank and Hazel (Pershing) Malone. Ray married the love of his life, Doris M. (Anderson) Malone on March 10, 1950.
When Ray was younger, he was a 4-H leader and also sang in a Greene County Rural Youth Quartet. He served as Past President of Greene County Farm Bureau and was active in other areas of Farm Bureau. He was actively involved with Smithville Telephone Company in its early years and part of the group that got Switz City Co-op fueling center established and was one of the last living graduates of Newberry High School. Ray and Doris were humble and progressive farmers for their entire life. After retiring from farming, Ray became an accomplished woodworker, making furniture and small pieces for family and friends. He watched from his living room window the construction of the I-69 interstate. Ray and Doris traveled to several countries, including Europe, China, South America, Alaska, Hawaii and through the Panama Canal. They were active supporters of the Gardens of Ketcham.
Family left to cherish the memories of Ray include: two daughters, Judy (Jim) Hunsicker of Huntingburg and Karen (Dennis) Kutch of Newberry; son-in-law, Melvin Lich of Bruceville; special friends, Mike and Ruth Ann Flinn; grandchildren, Jonathan Hunsicker, Allen Lich, Tammy Halter, Megan Pride, Renae McCracken, Lora Kutch, Sarah Saladin and Rachel Flinn. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews.
Ray was preceded in death by: his parents; his wife, Doris Malone; daughter, Donna J. Lich and brother, Rex Malone.
Funeral services to honor the life of Ray will be at 11:00 AM on Friday, October 25, 2024 at Meng Family Funeral Home in Odon with Pastor Nathan Brooks officiating. Ray will be laid to rest in Mt. Nebo Cemetery in Newberry.
Family and friends may call from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Thursday, October 24 and from 10:00 AM until the time of service at 11:00 AM on Friday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Gardens of Ketcham. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
