Melba "Mel" Lynn Padgett Henry

Melba ‘Mel’ Lynn Padgett Henry, 64, of Newberry, Indiana unexpectantly passed away at Good Samaritan Hospital in Vincennes, Indiana at 10:01 P.M. on February 7th, 2022. Melba was born on July 22, 1957 in Madisonville, Kentucky. Melba was the oldest daughter of John R. Padgett (deceased) formerly of Linton, Indiana and Sharon Lee Wilson Padgett of Henderson, Kentucky.

Melba is survived by her husband of 45 years, Michael L. Henry and three sons: Matthew Lee Henry (Nicole) of Noblesville, Indiana, Christopher Douglas Henry of Chrisney, Indiana, and James Stewart Henry of Odon, Indiana; her three sisters, Jonna Lee Langston (Bobby) of Henderson, Kentucky, Penny L. Padgett of New Harmony, Indiana, and Sara L. Artman (Lance) of Clay, Kentucky. Mel deeply loved all eleven (11) of her surviving grandchildren: Tristan, Dylan, Landon, Kathleen (Kitty), Katelin, Shelby, Taylor, Natalie, Damian, Emma and Parker.

Melba graduated from Central High School in 1975 and she graduated with a nursing degree from Vincennes University on May 6th, 1995 with a GPA of 3.08. She went on to a successful nursing career (R.N.) as a dialysis nurse/manager at DaVita and she had recently retired from the Ketcham Memorial Center in Odon, Indiana. Melba was a lifelong member of the Newberry Cornerstone Church (formerly UMC), singing in the choir as a teenager.

Melba will be greatly missed by her family and friends. Her crystal blue eyes and smiling face will be remembered. Mel often hosted her grandchildren at summer pool parties and everyone enjoyed Mel’s sweet tea. She had a green thumb with several beautiful plants on her porch blooming over the summertime.
No funeral services are being held, but memorial contributions can be made to the Newberry Cornerstone Church at P.O. Box 27, Newberry, Indiana 47449.
