Maxine (Johnson) Newsom, age 93, of Linton, passed away at 6:25 pm on Wednesday, February 9, 2022, at Glenburn Home in Linton. She was born in Coatesville, IN on January 18, 1929, the daughter of Allan & Ennis (Justice) Johnson.

She was married to Donald Newsom on August 3, 1974. She was a member of the Linton First Christian Church, Women of the Moose in Linton, American Legion Post #22, was a lifetime member of the VFW in Greencastle, IN and also belonged to 2 card clubs. She was a hard worker and was always active doing something around the house or outside on the farm.

Maxine is survived by her children, Donald (Rhonda) Eyler of Terre Haute, Brenda (Mike) Combs of Bloomfield, Sheila Waggoner of Reelsville, Phillip (Susan) Eyler of Evansville and Teresa (Bill) Parish of Greencastle; stepchildren, Kerry (Jane) Newsom of Jasper and Trisha (Carl) Lohkemp of Bloomfield; 22 grandchildren; several great grandchildren and one great great grandchild on the way.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, George Eyler, Jr. and Donald Newsom; sons, Allan Douglas Eyler who was killed in Vietnam; stepson, George Allan Eyler; son-in-law, Kenneth Waggoner as well as two sisters and two brothers.

Funeral service will be held at 1:00 pm at Welch & Cornett Funeral Home in Linton on Tuesday, February 15, 2022. Burial will follow at Worthington Cemetery in Worthington.

Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Monday, February 14, 2022 from 4:00 – 7:00 pm, and on Tuesday from 12:00 Noon until the time of service.
