Maurice "Baty" Terhune
/Maurice “Baty” Terhune, 85, of Switz City, Ind., was surrounded by his loving family when he passed away on Tuesday, Dec. 10, 2019, at Breckenridge Health and Rehab in Sullivan. He was born in Dugger, Ind., on Sept. 20, 1934, to William Baty and Doris (Packer) Terhune.
Baty was a proud UMWA member, retiring from Amax Coal Company after 45 years of service. He enjoyed years of farming, raising cattle, and excavating work with his late father and his son on the family farm, which was passed down to Baty and is now entrusted to his children. He was a member of the Summerville Church of Christ, UMWA Local 1423, BMW Motorcycle Club and the Switz City Cemetery Board.
He is survived by his wife, whom he married June 14, 1989, Diane (Floyd) Terhune; three loving children: Risa Dyar of Worthington, Robin Cooper (John) of Linton, and Maurice Baty Terhune J.R. (Lorena) of Switz City; five grandchildren: Ryan Snell (Jess) of Denver, Colo., Lacey Cooper (Cain) of Linton, Matthew Dyar (Brittany) of Nashville, Tenn., Sam Dyar (Mercedes) of Linton, Alexis Terhune of Ellettsville; three great-grandchildren: Aven Ryanne Cooper, Kit Lindsey Snell and Baby Girl Snell (due Dec 11, 2019); three step-grandchildren, Clay, Trevor and Jacob Smith all of Switz City; a sister, Yvonne Terhune Apsey of Bloomington; and several nieces and nephews.
Baty was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Lindsey Renee Snellenberger; his sister, Catherine Peterson; and his parents.
Funeral service will be held at Welch & Cornett Funeral Home in Linton at 11:00 A.M. on Tuesday, December 17, 2019, with Pastor J.D. Rose officiating. Baty will be laid to rest in Switz City Cemetery.
Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Monday, Dec. 16, 2019 from 4-8 P.M., and Tuesday, December 17 from 10 A.M. until the time of service.
