Mary Elaine (Chapman) Flater, 82, of Linton, Indiana, passed away on Monday, November 11, 2024, at Sugar Grove Senior Living in Plainfield, Indiana. She was born in Wyandotte, Michigan, on December 17, 1941, to Paul Eugene Chapman, Sr. and Evelyn Mae (Bledsoe) Chapman Baize, after the passing of her father, Paul, she was raised by Donald C. Baize. On December 24, 1961, Mary became the wife of Jackie Glenn Flater.

Mary was a member of the First Church of God in Linton. She worked as a Cosmetologist and was a homemaker.    

Family left to cherish Mary’s memory include daughters, Julie A. (Basim) Abdalla of Fishers, Cynthia R. (John) Prange of Indianapolis, Machelle L. (Andy) Holt of Terre Haute; grandchildren: Abdalla (Israa), Ferras (Laila), Waleed (Zohadya), Ahmad (Hawa), Christina (Katrina), Nathan (Ariel), Sarah, Elsa, Jessica (Orry), and Jacob;  great-grandchildren: Azziyah, Bilqees, Safaa, Naeem, Zarah, Jaxton, Charly and Remington and baby Phipps on the way.  Mary is also survived by her sisters, Janice Armpriester of Myrtle Beach, SC, and Edna Ruth Garwood of Linton.      

Mary was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Jackie Flater; brothers: Jerry Chapman, Sr., Paul Chapman, Jr. and Donald Baize, Sr.; and a sister, Linda Schreiber.

Funeral services will be at 1:00 PM on Thursday, November 14, 2024, at Anderson-Poindexter Chapel in Linton with Danny Hillenburg officiating. Mary will be laid to rest in Fairview Cemetery in Linton, IN.

Family and friends may call from 11:00 AM until the time of service at 1:00 PM on Thursday at the funeral home.
