Mary Anne Hirth
/Mary Anne Hirth, 94, of Owensburg, passed away on Monday, November 3, 2025 at Hearthstone Health Campus in Bloomington.
Born November 7, 1930 in Owensburg, Indiana, she was the daughter of Roy and Stella (Hatfield) Hudson.
Anne was an ordnance worker at NWSC Crane. She liked to tell people not to mess with her because she made bombs. She was a founding member of the Women’s Auxiliary of the Owensburg Fire Department and helped with starting the fire department, along with her husband Charles, who together helped build and maintain the building.
She was a founding member of the Eastern School; she helped finish construction of the school and volunteered her time where needed for many different projects. She was a founding member of the Owensburg Emanuel Hatfield Museum and Library, and was the secretary of the board for many years. She worked hard every year to organize the Founders Day Festival; she was very proud of her Hatfield heritage and proud the museum was named after her ancestor Emanuel Hatfield.
Anne was also the first Cub Scout den mother of the Owensburg Cub Scouts. She was a season ticket holder at the Shawnee Summer Theatre from the first season until COVID hit. Anne loved to travel, especially to Branson, Missouri, where she and Charles went to 49 times. She got called up on stage many times and once shocked the entertainer because she could do the Hula dance, which she learned in Hawaii.
Anne’s favorite thing was laughing and having fun; she died just four days before her 95th birthday and was looking forward to getting her hair done and having her picture taken.
The family wishes to thank Stonecroft and Hearthstone nursing homes and Heart to Heart Hospice for their care, kindness, and concern.
