Margaret (Marge) Rose (Sparks) George

Margaret (Marge) Rose (Sparks) George, 89, passed away peacefully at her home in Bloomfield, Indiana on October 27, 2025 surrounded by her children. She was born on April 27, 1936 at home in Mineral City, Greene County, Indiana at the Rockwood Combs place. She was the daughter of C. Gaylord and Mary E. (Merritt) Sparks. She had wonderful memories of growing up in Mineral where she attended school until switching to Scotland, Indiana school. She married Samuel D. George, Sr. on June 6, 1952 in Owensburg, Indiana. Together they raised five children, Beth, Patty, Teri, Sam Jr., and Traci as well as one grandson, Brandon.

Marge worked in several positions, including the Greene County Assessor’s office, the Richland Township Trustee’s office, the Evening World newspaper office, the Greene County Sheriff’s Department (retired dispatcher) and the Linton City Police Department (retired dispatcher). While raising her children, Marge sold Avon, Tupperware, and Amway home cleaning products. She was a member of the Happy Workers and Park Sunshine Homemakers clubs representing them on the local and state levels. She created a cookbook for her family and friends, sewed many beautiful quilts as well as crocheted afghans, hats, purses, and scarves for the lucky ones to have as gifts. She was a member of the Mineral Methodist Church.

She is survived by her children; daughters Beth A. Seaton of Boonville, IN, Patricia J. (Thomas) Sullivan of Indianapolis, IN, Teri E. George of Charlotte, NC, Traci L. Harris of Bloomfield, IN, and son Samuel D. George, Jr. of Bloomfield, IN, grandson Brandon M. (Kim) Fish of Rockport, IN and her ‘adopted’ daughter, Jeannie (Walter) Brooks of Charleston, SC. Numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Also surviving are her siblings; sisters Nancy Ochoa of San Antonio, TX and Cathi (Chris) Delp of Lafayette, IN, her brother John (Janet) Sparks of Solsberry, IN and sisters-in-law Mrs. Chrystal (Jim) Sparks of Sullivan, IN, Mrs. Lucie (Bill) Sparks of Hessel, MI, and best furry buddy Teddy.

Marge was preceded in death by her husband Samuel D. George, Sr. in July of 2018, her parents Gaylord and Mary Sparks, grandparents, William and Lou (Wade) Sparks and Ernest B. and Jonquil (Haywood-Messick) Merritt, brothers William Sparks and James Sparks, sister’s infant Eleanor Gay Sparks and Mary Jane Martindale-Royalty, and in-laws Arlo and Elsie (Wright) George.

The family would like to thank nurses Sutton, Meagan and Stephanie, Chaplain Jeff and the entire staff of Heart-to-Heart Hospice for their care and compassion.

A celebration of life with Reverend Erin Raper officiating will be held on Saturday, November 8, 2025 from 2:00 to 6:00 p.m. at the Mineral Church Community Building (3175 E. Mineral-Koleen Road, Bloomfield, IN). Private graveside services will be held at a later date.
