Margaret Lee Stanton
/Margaret Lee Stanton, 91, of Dugger, Indiana passed away on Tuesday, May 21, 2024 in her beloved home. Margaret was born on December 2, 1932, near Bucktown, Indiana the daughter of Irene and Raynold Figg.
She graduated near the top of her class in 1950 from Pleasantville High School. Margaret married her high school sweetheart, Garland Stanton, shortly after high school graduation on May 14th, 1950. The couple shared their 74th wedding anniversary six days before she passed.
For the first three years of marriage, Margaret joined Garland where he was stationed for his service in the Air Force and lived in Augusta, Georgia and Springfield, Massachusetts eventually settling in their home west of Bucktown before living the last 32 years in Dugger.
Margaret was an avid collector of antiques and often repaired and restored furniture to its original beautiful condition. She hand quilted over 50 quilts—all of which had remarkable detail and beauty which she happily gifted to family or displayed in one of her vintage cabinets in her home.
To know Margaret, was to love her. She was passionate about her family and treated everyone with an open mind and a loving heart. She is somewhat famous in the area for yard sales she hosted and her passion for going to yard sales regularly.
Margaret was an incredible matriarch for our family. She will continue to be our hero having set an amazing example for her family and friends.
Margaret is preceded in death by her parents and brother, Larry Figg. Survivors include her loving husband, Garland and her children: Scott (Larissa); Brett (Lynn); Leah Stanton Allman (Craig), and Susan Stanton.
Her pride and joy included 13 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren. Siblings include Ben Figg (Ruth), Mike Figg (Dot); Tucker Figg (Criss- deceased); Larry Figg- deceased (Jerri); along with many nieces and nephews.
Heartfelt thanks to Hospice nurse, Aubrey Cooper. Aubrey has cared for Margaret and Garland for over two years.
A celebration of life will be Saturday, June 1, 2024 at 11 am at Shiloh Church of Christ, 3529 State Road 54, Sullivan, Indiana. Interment will take place at a later date at Woodward Cemetery in Dugger, Indiana.
Arrangements were entrusted to Newkirk's Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers the family suggest that memorial donations be made to JDRF in honor of Margaret L Stanton. Margaret has supported JDRF for many years in her hope for a cure for Type 1 Diabetes.
