Luther Welch, Sr.

Luther Marion Welch Sr. (97) of Bloomfield, IN, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great- grandfather, and friend passed away on October 15th, 2018 at Greene County General Hospital.
Luther was born at home in Perryvile, KY on December 31, 1920.

Over the span of his life he lifted himself out of poverty, raised eight children, served his country in 3 wars, and traveled the world (living in six countries and twelve states). The first of six children born to Luther William Welch and Emma Marie Messer, In his teen years,
depression era hardships forced his family to move to Columbus, Indiana from Kentucky. After Pearl Harbor he re-enlisted serving in the US Army Air Corps 8th Air Force.

After WWII Luther returned to Indiana where he met and married his wife of 72 years Rosella M. Glardon. The family made its final move to Bloomfield, IN in 1972. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints for 57 years. He and Rosella have been members of the Linton, IN Ward of the church for the past 46 years serving an in a variety of roles. In addition to his church work Luther was generous with his time and materials to friends and strangers alike.

Luther is survived by his wife (Rosella Welch), two daughters (Verna Marie Summerville, Alta Welch), six sons (Luther Jr., Charles, David, Donald, Harold, and Gerald), twenty-five grandchildren, twenty-six great-grandchildren, and seven great-great-grandchildren. He will be greatly missed.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 P.M. on Friday at Jenkins Funeral Home in Bloomfield and 12:30 P.M. Saturday until the hour of service at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Linton.

Services will be held at 1:30 P.M. on Saturday at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Linton with Bishop Robert K. Warren Jr officiating. Burial will follow at Prairie Chapel Cemetery.
