Larry Burks

Lawrence T. “Larry” Burks, 71, of Solsberry, Indiana passed away September 18, 2018 at his home in Solsberry. He was born on September 28, 1946 in Bloomington, Indiana the son of Warren Truman and Dorothy Mae (Keller) Burks.

Larry was a 1964 graduate of Eastern Greene High School. He married Peggy Jean Hudson on July 15, 1966 in Solsberry, Indiana. Larry worked for Griffith Motor Express in Bloomington for 17 years, and then for Overnight Transport/UPS Freight for over 20 years before retiring in 2005. He was a member of the Union Church in Solsberry. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting, working around the house and training dogs (labs), he will be missed by all who loved and knew him.

Larry is survived by his children; Jeffrey W. (Keely) Burks of Cedar Falls, IA, Larry Brent (Dawn)Burks of Bloomington, James Bradley Burks of Solsberry, Julie Beth (Jon "Brandy") Thomas of Solsberry, nine grandchildren; Keller Jeffrey Burks, Curtis Burks, Kyle Burks, Quinna Burks, Christopher M. (Sierra) Burks, Natalie Elizabeth Burks, Jama Beth Thomas, Jena Bailee Thomas and Jonathan Blake Thomas, two great grandchildren: Jadyn Burks and Cash Michael Bradley Burks, five sisters; Kathy (Mike) Hedrick, Janice (Ted) Kent, Arlene (Steve) Mobley all of Solsberry, Rita (Jack) Purcell and Dalene Dye of Bloomfield, one brother; John (Janie) Burks of Spencer and former daughter-in-law; Lisa Jean Burks of Solsberry, Aunt and Uncle Harold (Maxine) Burks of Spencer and several nieces and nephews and many cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and two brothers-in-law’s: Richard Dye and Jeff Richardson.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00am Tuesday, September 25, 2018 at the Solsberry Christian Church. With Rev Don Dwyer officiating. Burial will follow at Solsberry Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 2:00pm to 8:00pm Monday, September 24, 2018 at the Allen Funeral Home & Crematory 4155 S. Old State Rd 37 Bloomington and from 10:00am to service time Tuesday at the church.
