Kathleen "Kate" Mitchell, age 79, of Coal City, passed away peacefully at 12:20 am on Monday, May 10, 2021, at McCormicks Creek Health Care Center in Spencer. She was born in Clay County, IN on January 16, 1942, the daughter of Garry & Geneva (Burris) Hayden.

She was a devoted military wife to her beloved husband for 22 years and after he retired from the Army, she worked as a manager at a Coal City Market for many years. She enjoyed collecting Hull vases and Dresden Dolls years ago. She also loved spending time with her family.

Kate is survived by her beloved husband of 59 years, Ronald Mitchell of Coal City; grandson, Sonny J. Mitchell and his wife Alison of Hope; sisters, Martha Simmons and her husband Wallace of Columbia City and Phyllis Wilcox and her husband Kermit of Worthington; sisters-in-law, Lynnetta Hayden of Clay City and Sharon Hayden of Clay City.

She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Dennis Lynn Mitchell and brothers, Jerry Hayden and David Hayden.

A private graveside service will be observed by the family at Clayton Cemetery in Linton.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Welch & Cornett Funeral Home in Linton.
