John R. Spice

John R. Spice, age 93, of Linton, passed away peacefully at 4:16 p.m., on Friday, July 2, 2021, surrounded by his family at Greene County General Hospital in Linton. He was born in Linton on February 10, 1928, the son of Jack and Mary Gwendolyn (Jones) Spice.

John was a 1946 graduate of Linton-Stockton High School, and a 1955 graduate of Purdue University as a chemical engineer. He served our country in the U.S. Army from 1950 to 1952.

John worked for Gulf Oil Company, Shell Oil Company and Chevron Oil Company, and later Cosden Oil and Chemical Company until his retirement in 1991.

He was a member of the Linton First United Methodist Church and Linton F & AM Lodge #560.

He is survived by nephew, Brad (Susan) Spice of Avon, and several great nieces and nephews including, Amanda Moore, of Goodyear, Az., Gwendolyn (Brent) Winderlich, Indianapolis, William (Elizabeth) Spice, Indianapolis, Jarrod Spice, Indianapolis.  He is also survived by 10 great, great nieces and nephews, including, Cody (Heather) Moore, Goodyear, Az, Sophia Pearman, Audrey Spice, Haley Winderlich, Evan Spice, Benjamin Spice, Grant Spice, Tristan Winderlich, Owen Spice and Lukas Spice all of Indianapolis, IN.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Donald (Phyllis) Spice, sister, Phyllis Ann Spice, a niece, Susan Kay Spice-Thimlar, and a great nephew, Paul Mitchell.

Funeral and Masonic service will be held at 12:00 p.m., Monday July 12, 2021 at Welch & Cornett Funeral Home in Linton with Rev. Ben Biggs officiating. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Linton, with military graveside rites conducted by the Linton American Legion Post #22.

Visitation will be held at on Monday July 12, 2021 from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service.
