Joanne C. Blanton
Joanne C. Blanton, age 89, of Linton, passed away on Monday, March 14, 2022, at her residence. She was born in Linton on July 28, 1932, the daughter of Jesse & Betty (Campbell) Colvin.
She was a 1950 graduate of Linton-Stockton High School. She met the love of her life, Gerald M. Blanton (Jasonville) at the Linton Soda Shop and knew right away he was the one for her. She was right. They were married in October 1952, and spent 65 wonderful years together before Gerald passed away. Throughout those years they traveled, played cards, and spent time with friends and family.
In addition to raising two children, Joanne worked as a teller for People’s Trust Company Bank for many years until her retirement. In her free time, Joanne absolutely loved to travel. She and Gerald spent many retirement winters in sunny Orlando, Florida, enjoying the company of his brother, Leland and his wife Gayle, and her brother, Clarence and his wife Phyllis. Some of her favorite trips were to Washington state with family and to Alaska with Gerald and friends. She was at her happiest when she was playing cards, winning or losing, a pastime she enjoyed until the very end.
Joanne was a member of the Linton First Christian Church and also attended Linton Fellowship Baptist Church.
She is survived by her daughter, Sue Ann (John) Preble of Linton; Son, Jay Blanton of Sandborn; granddaughters, Emilee (Drea Schmidt) Preble and Julie (Nick) Jackson; grandsons, Benjamin Blanton and Bradlee Blanton; great grandchildren, Destiny Blanton, Gage Blanton and Duncan Schmidt.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Gerald M. Blanton in 2017; sister Cleo; brothers, Harold, Sherman (Howard) and Clarence as well as a grandson, Brandon.
Funeral service will be held at 1:00 pm at Welch & Cornett Funeral Home on Saturday, March 19, 2022 with Pastor Nick Moore officiating. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Linton.
