Jerrell Dean Holtsclaw
Jerrell Dean Holtsclaw, 83, of Switz City, Indiana, passed from this life, on Sunday, October 8, 2023 with his family by his side at Greene County General Hospital in Linton.
He was born on May 27, 1940 in Linton to Robert G. and Doris (Noel) Holtsclaw. Jerrell married his loving wife, Rita Jane (Roudebush) Holtsclaw, on March 14, 1959.
Jerrell was an Army Indiana National Guard veteran, serving from November 1957 to March 10, 1963 before becoming a member of the Army Reserve. He was a member of the Linton First Christian Church and served 15 years (January 1980 – December 1995) on the Switz City Town Council. Jerrell was a 50+ year member of the Grant-Fairplay Fire Department where he held the offices of Fire Chief and Assistant Fire Chief. He received the distinguished award for his 50 years of service from the State of Indiana General Assembly and Senate. Jerrell was owner/ operator of Holtsclaw Sales and Service since 1960.
Family left to cherish the memories of Jerrell include: his wife, Rita Holtsclaw; son, Bill (Leslie) Holtsclaw of Switz City; daughter, Cindy (Mark) Schmitt of Anderson; grandchildren, Jeremy Busby, Haylee (Brandon) Jerrell, Aaron (Kenzie) Seidler, Hannah Seidler, Alyssa (Dylan) Day and Derek Dixon; great-grandchildren, Bret Busby, Connor Busby, Waylon Busby, Hunter Jerrell, Tinslee Jerrell, Bodey Buskirk, Garrett Cargal and Rowan Day; brother, Daniel R. (Jackie) Holtsclaw. Jerrell was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Lynnett Swaby.
Funeral services to honor the life of Jerrell will be at 11:00 AM on Thursday, October 12, 2023 at Anderson-Poindexter Chapel in Linton with Byron Holtsclaw officiating. Jerrell will be laid to rest in Switz City Cemetery following the Fireman’s Last Call.
Family and friends may call from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Wednesday, October 11 and from 9:00 AM until the time of service at 11:00 AM on Thursday at the funeral home.
The Indiana Volunteer Firefighters Association will honor Jerrell with a memorial service at 7:00 PM on Wednesday at the funeral home.
The family has requested that memorial contributions be made to the Switz City Volunteer Fire Department. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
