James "Red" Yeryar

James “Red” Yeryar, 97, of Midland, IN passed away at 8:30 A.M. Friday, May 27, 2022 surrounded by his loving family at Regional Hospital in Terre Haute, IN. He was born September 30, 1924 in Clay County, IN to William Henry Yeryar and Ella May (Marshall) Yeryar.

James married Laura Beth (Fougerousse) Yeryar, September 27, 1946, she passed away November 29, 2006  .

Survivors include his three sons, Jim Yeryar (Shelia) of Midland, IN, John Yeryar (Debbie) of Jasonville, IN, Gary Yeryar (Pam) of Jasonville, IN; grandchildren, Denise Gambill (Todd), Nan West (Bob), Greg Kennett (Ashley), Mandy Simmons (Spank), Krista Cornelius (Jared), Brent Yeryar (Misty), Jesse Yeryar (Kammi), Jeremy Yeryar (Stacy), Jimmy John Yeryar (Linsey); 26 – great-grandchildren; 15 – great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Laura Yeryar;, daughter, Devonna Johnson; two infant children, Theresa and Alan Dale Yeryar; granddaughter, Cheri Griffith; great-grandson, Wyatt Dejesus; brother, Buell Yeryar; sisters, Jesse Allen, Olive Washnidge, Opal Shacklett, Ruby Hadley, Ada Marshall; Three siblings at home, Howard, Ira, Lucille Yeryer.

Red was a member of Lebanon Baptist Church at Midland. A WWII Army Veteran having served with Merrill’s Marauders. He retired from the Peabody Coal Company and was a member of the UMWA. He also belonged to IWCS Woodworking Club. Red enjoyed gardening, fishing, hunting, woodworking, and spending time with his family.

Arrangements are entrusted to Michael W. Cox, Cox Funeral Home; 218 South Meridian Street; Jasonville, Indiana. Visitation is scheduled from 11 A.M. to 1 P.M. Friday, June 3. 2022 at the Funeral Home.Services are immediately following at 1 P.M. with Pastor Mike Rotman officiating.

Interment will be at Lebanon Cemetery in Midland, IN with Military Graveside Rites.
