James R. Hayes, age 81, of Linton, passed away peacefully, with his family by his side, on Wednesday morning, October 26, 2022, at his residence. He was born in Linton on September 26, 1941, the son of Howard and Evelyn (Tietrich) Hayes.

Jim was a 1959 graduate of Midland High School. He worked in construction and as a crane operator through IBEW Local #841 of Terre Haute. He was a member of Linton First Baptist Church.

Jim enjoyed hunting, fishing and traveling. He also enjoyed planning his next meal, visiting with others, and spending time with his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife of nearly 62 years, Peggy L. (Perry-Hinkle) Hayes; two daughters, Kamie (Todd) Heuby of Dugger and Kirstal (Dean) Mossburger of Linton; seven grandchildren, Zachery (Sitti) Hale, Isaac Hale, Caleb (Casey) Hale, Wynter Hale, Shania Hale, Kiera (Tyler) Stockrahm, and Alec (Calandra) Mossburger; and ten great-grandchildren, Rylan, Dayton, Joseph, Jackson, Henry, Alba, Kinzee, Lyla, Errison, and Amelia.

He was preceded in death by his parents; infant children, Richie Hayes and Keciea Hayes; and son, Rick Hayes.
