James Hobson

James Mont Hobson, 89, of Bloomfield, passed away on Sunday, April 14, 2019. Born January 18, 1930 in Lawrence County, he was the son of Carroll Raymond and Lois (Stalcup) Hobson.

After serving 4 years in the US Marine Corps, he continued his service in the US Marine Corps Reserve for 21 years and retired as a Major in 1973. James retired as a teacher at Ben Davis High School and was a farmer. He was a member of the Concord General Baptist Church, Bloomfield Masonic Lodge #84, Knights of Pythias and the Scottish Rite.

Surviving relatives include: his wife, Rita (Bough) Hobson whom he married December 18, 1950; his children, James L. ( Leona) Hobson of Bloomfield, Terry (Darlene) Hobson of Lyons and Nancy (Jeff) Swedran of Worthington; one brother, Dick Hobson of Wakarusa, Indiana; eight grandchildren, Kevin (Penny), Laurie (Chad), Sam, Curt, Cara, Andrea (Mark), Tara and Parker; and nine great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Leland and Henry and his parents.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, April 19, 2019 at the Concord General Baptist Church in Bloomfield, with Rev. Craig Moore and Rev. Mark Thomas officiating. Interment will follow in Calvertville cemetery in rural Bloomfield.

Public visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. on Thursday at Jenkins Funeral Home in Bloomfield and 1 hour prior to services on Friday at the church.

The family asks that all memorial contributions be made to the Concord General Baptist Church Fellowship Hall Fund.
