James Leroy McKisson

James McKisson

James Leroy McKisson, age 93, of Linton, went to be with his Lord at 2:19 A.M. on Wednesday, May 29, 2019, at his residence. He was born on January 6, 1926, in New Galilee, Pennsylvania, the son of Rev. Theron and Ethel (Beight) McKisson. 

At age 17, James enlisted in the United States Navy during World War II.  He served our country during the war on various submarines.  His military career took him through the Korean War and Vietnam War, retiring in 1969.  Following his military career and retirement, James worked in the private sector as an electronics technician, retiring at age 82 from Wabash Valley Correctional Facility.

He was a member of the Linton First Methodist Church. James enjoyed reading, studying the bible, and living his life as a Christian man.

Survivors include his son, David McKisson of West Lafayette; two daughters, Patti Lynn (Daniel) Axe, Linton & Judith Rose (Jeff) Laughlin, Linton; 6 grandchildren, Scott (Megan) McKisson, Matthew (Nickie) Axe, Joseph Axe, Jennifer Wathen, Jamie (Scott) Fitch and Jeffrey Michael Laughlin; 11 great-grandchildren, Drake, Claire, Samantha, Wesley, Luke, Austin, Jerek, Jacie, Briley, Madison, and Lauren; his siblings, Audrey Daniel, Joan Peters, Ruth Smith, Mary Edith Kelly, and Johnny McKisson.    

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Jean (Copeland) McKisson on July 23, 2013; a son, James Leroy McKisson, Jr., Sept. 27, 1970; and  his brothers, Theron McKisson, Jr. and Orval McKisson. 

Funeral service will be held at Welch & Cornett Funeral Home in Linton at 11:00 A.M. on Monday, June 3, 2019, with Rev. Ben Biggs officiating.  Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Linton where military honors will be given. 

Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Sunday from 2-5 P.M. and Monday from 10 A.M. until the time of service Monday.
