James Elvis Thomas

James Elvis Thomas 95, of Holiday, Florida passed away on Saturday, October 20, 2018. Born October 20, 1923 in Bloomfield, he was the son of Reed W. and Gladys (Byers) Thomas.

Jim was an accountant for the Indiana State Board of Health, business administrator for Indiana Sold and Sail, business administrator for Children’s Home in Knightstown, Indiana, business administrator for the School for the Deaf in Indianapolis, Vice-President of business affairs for the Florida School for the Deaf in St. Augustine, Florida.

He was the President of the Capitol City Marion County Christian Churches Evangelism Association where it was instrumental in establishing Chapel Rock Christian Church. He served as an Elder, Sunday School Superintendent and Teacher, He and his wife founded the First Christian Church in St. Augustine, Florida in 1967, now called Homeport Christian Church; he was a member of the Kiwanis Club in St. Augustine, Florida, President of the YMCA, and President of the Community Chest in St. Augustine, Florida. He was also a member of the Christian Church in Holiday, Florida and Beaver Creek Christian Church in West Jefferson, North Carolina.

Surviving relatives include: his wife, Marietta (Tucker) Thomas of Holiday, Florida; nine nieces and three nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Mary Thompson.

Graveside services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, October 26, 2018 at Prairie Chapel Cemetery in Lyons, with Scott Chastain officiating. Jenkins Funeral Home in Bloomfield is in charge of arrangements.
