James D. Hughes
James D. ‘Jim’ Hughes, 74, of Sandborn, Indiana, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, on Saturday, August 4, 2018 at IU Health Hospice House in Bloomington. He was born on March 12, 1944 in Greene County, Indiana to James Dale and Mary Kathryn (Frederick) Hughes. He married his loving wife of 50 years, Brenda L. (Hasler) Hughes on December 17, 1967.
Jim was a US Air Force veteran, Vietnam Era. He was a member of the Marco United Methodist Church, 50 year member of UMWA Dist. 1410, BPO Elks #866 and 50 year member of American Legion Post #196, Bloomfield. Jim worked as a coal miner at Peabody Coal Co. and Beech Coal Mine before retiring in 2003. He enjoyed his vehicles, gardening, woodworking and working in his lawn.
Survivors include: his wife, Brenda Hughes of Sandborn; one son, Brad (Shawn) Hughes of Bloomfield; one daughter, Natalie (Duff) Davidson of Eden Prairie, MN; five grandchildren, Brennan, Nolan, Amelia, Anthony and Maddie; one sister, Joan James of Linton.
Jim was preceded in death by: his parents; two brothers, Greg Hughes and Don Hughes; brother-in-law, Morgan James.
Funeral services are scheduled for 1:00 PM on Thursday, August 9, 2018 at Meng Family Funeral Home, Anderson-Poindexter Chapel in Linton with Rev. Rose Sparks officiating. Jim will be laid to rest in Stafford Cemetery in Sandborn following military graveside rites by the American Legion Post #196.
Family and friends may call from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Wednesday, August 8 and from 12:00 Noon until the time of service at 1:00 PM on Thursday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Marco United Methodist Church, Stafford Cemetery Association or the American Cancer Society. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
