Helen Marie Ferguson
Helen Marie (Potter) Ferguson, age 96, of Indianapolis, formerly of Linton, passed away at 3:55 a.m. Tuesday, May 22, 2018, at Washington Health Care in Indianapolis. She was born May 13, 1922, the daughter of Albert Edward and Ada Marie (Gilliatt) Potter.
Helen grew up in Bedford and graduated from Linton-Stockton High School in 1940. She married Andrew S. Ferguson on August 1, 1942. They lived in Bloomfield until 1959 when they bought a farm in Linton. Andrew and Helen were married for 65 years until he passed away April 15, 2007.
Helen worked for Allisons, Mallory, General Electric, and the Corral, a ladies clothing store in Linton.
When her children were young, she had a scout troop. She was a member of Linton First United Methodist Church, Country Corner Home Economics Club, and Toast Masters. She entered many projects in the homemakers open class at the 4-H fair and helped her children with their projects. Every year she would go to Purdue with her homemakers club and roomed with Laveda Carr. One year she sang with the homemakers at a combined choir in Bloomington.
Her husband Andrew would plant and tend their garden and Helen would can and freeze the vegetables. She enjoyed sewing and making clothes for herself and her family. She was very good at quilting and the family was blessed when she gave them on e as a gift. Helen loved running places with her friends and she would always drive. She loved family gatherings and loved to cook for them and for her club meetings and church activities. However, family was her greatest treasure and she loved them all.
She is survived by her two sons, Jack D. (Janice) Ferguson of Coatsville & Gary R. (Linda) Ferguson of Indianapolis, a daughter, Jill D. (Mark) Key of Tennessee, a sister, Sharon Horn of Bloomfield, eight grandchildren, eighteen great-grandchildren, Laura (Steve) Weddle, Kari (Robert) Smith, Shannon Ferguson, Jason (Cynthia) Ferguson, Meshella (David) Martin, Thadius (Angi) Ferguson, Jilana (Joey) Golliver, Daren (Priscilla) Key, twenty-one great-grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a sister, Phyllis Fulford, & a brother, Howard “Tom” Potter.
Funeral service will be held at Welch & Cornett Funeral Home in Linton at 1:00 P.M. on Memorial Day, Monday, May 28, 2018, with Scott Chastain officiating. Burial will be beside her husband in at Mt. Nebo Cemetery, near Newberry.
Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Monday from 10 A.M. until the time of service.
