Lavon Yoho

H. Lavon Yoho, 87, of Solsberry passed away Thursday November 14, 2019 at his residence. Born July 7, 1932 in Solsberry, Indiana, the son of Harold Dwight “Cotton” and Bernetta Pearl (Sullivan) Yoho.

Lavon has been successful in many endeavors throughout his life. He began his career as the owner of Dutch’s Café. He was Post Master at Solsberry, a bus driver for Solsberry School and a truck driver for Yoho and Sons. He was Superintendent of Highways for the Indiana Department of Transportation. He was the Director of the Bloomfield Housing Authority for twenty-five years, owned Hoosier Insurance, and served on the Board of Directors at Bloomfield State Bank.

Lavon served as the Greene County Republican Party Chairman for forty years. He also served as a precinct committeeman and Township Trustee for many years. Lavon headed the consolidation of Beech Creek, Center, and Jackson Townships to form Eastern School District. He was also a proud member of the Odd Fellows Lodge, Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite, Bloomfield Rotary Club, Eastern Star, and Sons of American Legion Post 450 in Solsberry. Lavon also served on the Eastern Heights Utilities Board and held several positions on the Greene County Economic Development Corporation, always striving to make Greene County a better place. He also proudly helped to form the Eastern Fire Department in Beech Creek Township.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Oscar and Ola Yoho and Almer and Dollie Sullivan. His parents, Dwight and Pearl Yoho, brother and sister in law, Donnie and Linda Yoho, infant sister, Lois Ann, infant son, David and his in-laws of the Street Family.

Surviving relatives include his wife of 69 years, Pat Yoho, his children, Pam Yoho and Jay (Sandi) Yoho; his grandchildren, Heather (Jason) Perkins, Micah (Chuck) Gallion, J.T. (Samantha) Yoho, Trevor Yoho; his great-grandchildren, Baylee and Brynlee Perkins, Hope and Grace Gallion, Cooper Yoho, cousins, Jon (Judy) Yoho, Michael (Maria) Yoho and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Friends may call from 3 to 8 P.M. Tuesday and 11 A.M. Wednesday until the hour of service, all at the Solsberry Christian Church.

Services will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Wednesday at the Solsberry Christian Church with Pastor Rob Martindale officiating. Burial will follow at Solsberry Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers the family wishes all memorial contributions be made to IU Health Hospice or Beech Creek Township Eastern Fire Department.
