H. Keith Haywood

H. Keith Haywood, 86, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, September 4, 2025, at Ketcham Memorial Center in Odon, Indiana.

He was born in Scotland, Indiana, on September 14, 1938, to James William Haywood and Dorothy Naomi (Hall) Haywood.

He retired as a heavy equipment operator for Peabody Coal Company in Universal, Indiana, and was a member of the UMWA. He enjoyed an early retirement due to the closing of the mine and therefore was able to do the things he loved: being a faithful member of Sugar Creek Baptist Church where he served as a deacon, being Chairman of the Building and Grounds Committee, participating in building the new sanctuary, and going on several mission trips with fellow church members/close friends spreading God’s Word and helping build and repair new churches.

Keith also enjoyed tractor shows and displaying his tractors, tinkering in his garage, rebuilding tractors, attending his grandchildren’s sporting events, studying God’s Word, collecting brass items and spending time with his family.

Keith is survived by his wife, Joy Etta (Workman) Haywood of 66 years whom he married on September 20, 1958, and their three children, Leslie (Janie) Haywood, Steven (Belinda) Haywood and Lisa (Scott) Moss. He is also survived by his grandchildren Whitney (Eric) Duncan, Jerrica (Randy) Pitts, Dustin (Brittany) Haywood, Ciera (Ryan) Austin, Keaton Haywood, McKinsey (Daulton) Foster, Kamdyn (Ian) Pfeiffer, Charles (Brandy) Roach, Nicki Goodwin, and Mandi Fletcher, along with several great grandchildren, Lillian, Addison, Ainsley, Asher, Memphis, Octavia, Kohen, Cayson, Gavin, Madison, Garrett, Charlie, Caroline, and Cora and extended family, Fred and Brenda Miller.

He graduated from North Daviess High School (formerly Odon-Madison Township High School) in 1956. Keith resided in Greene County with his wife and three children until 1970 when his job at Peabody Coal Company brought them to West Terre Haute. He is preceded in death by his parents and one sister Karen (Haywood) Townsend.

Public visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 13, 2025, at Jenkins Funeral Home in Bloomfield, Indiana, with funeral services at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Larry Snyder officiating. Interment will follow in Scotland Cemetery.

If memorial contributions are desired, they may be made to Sugar Creek Baptist Church in West Terre Haute, Indiana, or to the Alzheimer’s Association.
