George Joseph Helms

George Joseph Helms, 91, of Bloomfield, went to be with the Lord Tuesday October 20, 2020 at the Gibson Family Center for Hospice Care in Terre Haute, Indiana. Born April 25, 1929 in Greene County, Indiana, he was the son of McKinley L. and Helen (Barge) Helms.

George was a farmer, he worked as a Carpenter for Weddle Brothers, delivered petroleum for Mitchell Oil Service and White River Co-Op. He was an U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War. George was a member of the Tulip Church of God where he was a life Elder, served on the Eastern Heights Water Board, Bloomfield School Board, ASCS and the White River Valley Antique Association.

Surviving relatives include his wife Martha Ann Helms, three sons, Dennis (Donna) Helms, Russell Helms, Larry Helms, one brother, Paul Helms and several nieces and nephews.

George was preceded in death by one daughter, Jane Ann Jackson, siblings, Pauline Holtsclaw, Laura Jane Hamlin, Esther Cox and his parents.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 P.M. on Friday and 12:00 P.M. Saturday until the hour of service at Jenkins Funeral Home in Bloomfield.

Services will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Saturday at Jenkins Funeral Home in Bloomfield with Rev. Jeff Rockey officiating. Burial will follow at Tulip Cemetery.

The family wishes any memorial donations be made to Tulip Church of God in George’s name.
