Fran Abbott

Frances “Fran” Louise Abbott, 83 of Linton passed away peacefully at 7:14 am on April 9th, 2020. She was born to Anna “Jewell” (Clark) Hall and Henry Hall in Hoopeston, Illinois on October 16th, 1936.

She attended John Greer High School in Hoopeston and graduated in 1954.
  
Fran met her husband Jack on a blind date and married him on October 3rd, 1958. He was the love of her life and she was his. While living in Illinois she was a homemaker and then the principal’s secretary at Oakwood Elementary School in Oakwood Illinois. Jack’s job moved them to Rushville, Illinois for two and half years, then on to settle in Linton.  After a short time of being homesick and time to adjust, she embraced Linton as her forever home. She spent a short time as a stay at home Mom, then she went on to work as a Vocational aid in the Twin Rivers program at Linton High School. Fran then took the job of Executive Secretary of the Linton Chamber of Commerce for 10 years. She was then offered and accepted the job to be the mayor’s secretary by Jimmie K. Wright. Fran served in that capacity for the next three Mayors, ranging nearly thirty years of service. After retiring, she had been filling in as the secretary to the mayor and other duties up until her illness.
  
Fran grew to Love Linton, just as if it were her hometown. She cared very much about Linton and the people in it.
  
Fran was preceded in death by her husband Jack, her mother and father Anna Jewell and Henry Hall and one brother Ernie Clark.

She was a member of Linton First Baptist Church, was involved with many civic organizations such as the United Way, Salvation Army, was involved in the Linton Booster Club, and many other organizations.
  
Fran is survived by one daughter, Julie (Ed) Moreno of Waunakee, Wisconsin, one son, Herb (Katie) Abbott of Linton, her four grandchildren, Craig and Kayla Moreno, Jamie (Doug) Martin and Jessica (Jarad) Bacon, and three great grandchildren, Cole and Ellie Rose Martin, and Connor Bacon.

Due to the current situation in our country, a private family visitation will be held at Welch & Cornett Funeral Home in Linton on Monday, April 13, 2020.  A graveside service will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Linton.

There will be a public celebration of Life at a later date.

The family would like to express their gratitude to all the health workers at Greene County General Hospital for the wonderful care given to Fran
