Evelyn L. Runnels

Evelyn L. Runnels, 92, of Greensboro, North Carolina, formerly of Linton, Indiana, passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 25, 2022 at Moses Cone Memorial Hospital in Greensboro. She was born on March 8, 1930 in Mt. Vernon, Illinois to Arnold J. and Rose M. (Schmitt) Goffinet.

Evelyn married the love of her life, Willis Dale Runnels on September 3, 1954.

 

Evelyn was a member of the St. Peter Catholic Church in Linton, St. Ann’s Alter Society, where she served as Treasurer for over 40 years and Greene County General Hospital Guild. She was a wife, mother, Bookkeeper, Clerk/Treasurer for the city of Linton for two terms and then retired in 2004 as a Financial Advisor for Union Planters Bank. She was also involved with the Volunteer Income Tax Assistant Program for many years.

 

Evelyn loved sewing, knitting, and crocheting and spent many late-night hours playing Spyder Solitaire. She enjoyed cooking and loved to make specialties for her family. One of her favorite pastimes was sitting outside on her porch swing with a cup of coffee in her hand. Evelyn’s home away from home was Daytona Beach, Florida, where she vacationed with her husband, Dale, and her girls when they were young. She continued this loved tradition with her sisters later in life. Some of her favorite times were spent with her church friends in various activities, especially preparing noodles for the yearly bazaar. She also enjoyed her weekly time with her friends from the hospital volunteer group. Evelyn especially cherished family time with Kim, Steph and her 5 grandchildren. 

 

Family left to cherish the memory of Evelyn include: two daughters, Kimberly (Melanie Margolin) Runnels of Denver, CO and Stephanie L. (Scott) Francey of Greensboro, NC; grandchildren, Taylor, Austin, Hampton and Dawson Francey and Alexa Runnels; two sisters, Zella Fitts and Patricia Panarese.

Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Dale Runnels; brother, Paul Goffinet and three sisters, Bernadine Daily, Margaret Baker and Mary Alice Bain.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 AM on Monday, October 3, 2022 at St. Peter Catholic Church in Linton with Father Don Ackerman officiating. Evelyn will be laid to rest in Fairview Cemetery in Linton.

Family and friends may call from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Sunday, October 2 at Anderson-Poindexter Chapel in Linton. A Rosary Prayer Service will be at 7:00 PM on Sunday at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Peter Catholic Church in Linton. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
