Elizabeth Joanne "Betty Jo" Stansfield

Elizabeth Joanne “Betty Jo” Stansfield, 93, of Bloomfield, passed away on Tuesday, April 20, 2021. She passed peacefully, at home, with family and friends at her side. Born November 2, 1927, in Canton Illinois, she was the daughter of Alvin and T. Elizabeth (Minton) Felts.

She had a long career as an elementary and junior high-school teacher; first in Stewardson Illinois where she was introduced to her future husband, then in northern Indiana until her son was born, and finally at Eastern-Greene Schools starting in 1965 until 1984. She and her husband traveled frequently in their retirement, including visits to Europe, New Zealand, Australia, and Tahiti. She maintained a busy schedule in recent years by volunteering in support of the local library and Read Across America. She was a member of Tri Kappa, Greene County Retired Teachers Association, and the Furnace Extension Homemakers Club. She was fascinated by antiquities, and loved visiting museums. An avid reader to the end, she devoured mystery and adventure novels.

Surviving relatives include: one son, Tod Stansfield and his wife, Patricia A. Burke of Elm Grove, Wisconsin.

Betty Jo was preceded in death by her husband, James Phillip Stansfield on April 20, 2000, and her parents.

Public visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday at the Jenkins funeral home in Bloomfield. A private committal service and interment will follow in Lawrenceville City Cemetery in Lawrenceville, Illinois.

The family asks that all memorial contributions be made to Tri Kappa, Read Across America, or any Local 4H Club.
